Society and You

I succeeded because I did what the society told me, said no one ever.

I bet more than half of us think about the society’s reaction before doing every damn thing! Be it wearing a dress you really love or choosing the career you actually want to, let’s accept, that almost all of us consider what views the people around us would have on our choices. We are always in a dilemma that if do this one particular thing, will the society be okay with it? We have to think a thousand times about their reaction to the things we want. Don’t you think that is way too much attention towards the general public and putting our dilemmas and their views before our wants?

Let’s dive deep into the very reason of this mindset. Do we feel we owe something to the society? Well, no! Do we feel we’re inferior and so we need to please the people around us? Maybe some of us do think this. But what I’ve noticed and learnt till date is that the real reason behind this what-would-people-say outlook is we just can’t tolerate criticism. We care way too much about how we would be seen by those strangers around us because we can’t hear a single negative thing about ourselves. But really, why is it so? Why do everyone and every single comment matter? Isn’t it enough that we like what we do? I think it is and it is high time that you realise that you are the most important person to yourself, and this world won’t be itself if you were something different from what you are meant to be and supposed to be.

You want to dye your hair blue, dye them blue if that’s what you want. You want to wear that short summer dress that makes you feel beautiful, just wear it and show it off! Hell! If you want to divorce your husband because you’re not happy with him even trying hard for years, it’s time you leave him in the blink of an eye and move on!(Or probably do something amazing after the end like Elizabeth Gilbert did!) The world has many other people who would give you real joy. Don’t just think what the society has to say about your actions. Make your life your own in the real sense and live it in a way you have always wanted to because well, you don’t get to live a life twice. Why think twice then? It’s ridiculous to not to do what you wish to do just because of some idiotic-good-for-nothing people who couldn’t care less about you!

The fact is if people don’t want to like you then they simply won’t like you even if you’re the prettiest soul in the room! So just stop giving a damn about society’s idea of beauty or “perfect”. About the flaws you have, just embrace them and learn to flaunt them. Kill people with the grace of your imperfections and perfections. Who would have the time to care about what any other person has to say when you’re busy being the beautiful soul that you are.

Life in a cycle

Every day we go through the same cycle, the waking up to the alarm, the almost skipped breakfast, the running late to catch the taxi, the long work period, the coming home, having food, and then finally, sleeping, just to wake up to repeat the cycle.

The things go on like this forever, till we are old enough, sitting in a rocking-chair by the window and thinking, “Did I live my life right?”
We come across a few people in our lifetime who broke away from the same cycle of life, who went out the cycle to live their own lives, they decided their own rules and lived along them, and maybe at the start they had to hear mockery from the close ones, but we all know that now people look at them with admiration because they themselves spend a lot of time of the daily life thinking if they should break out of the routine, and if yes, then how?

The Bhagavad Gita — that ancient Indian text — says that it’s better to live your own life imperfectly than to live an imitation of someone else’s life perfectly.
Life is short — I do not need to tell you this, you already know — and we need to build it the way we want, so that when our time comes, we can look at the flash of our lives before us and say, “Yes, I lived it right.”
There are a lot of things we do so that we don’t have to hear things from people so that we are in tune with what other people do, no matter how miserable doing those things makes us feel. It can be as simple as eating that bad-tasting cereal in the morning, to as big as that job which people say is good, but you know how drained and bad it makes you feel. It can be that marriage that you are okay with but that makes you feel dead in life, to that dress you wore to the party that your dresser made you wear but that didn’t go with your taste. It can be as small as a grain of sand, to as big as the mountain. But we need to work for it, for the life that we want, for the feeling of ecstasy that we’ve spent our whole lives looking for, for the peace we will get when our time comes.
Yes, living according to the society feels like the safe choice, but does it give you the satisfaction that life is supposed to give you? The one you read about online and in books? And what are you doing to make it that way? Are you close to reaching that point, or you still have a long way to go?
I hope you’ll take your time after reading this to write down what you want out of your life, and is your present situation going to get you there? Write down what all you need to make it through and get going on it, no matter how slow, but go get your life straight, darling.

Believe you can, and you’re halfway there

You know what sets you free? Believing in yourself.

Nothing in the world can make you feel better and motivated than you yourself. You are your lone source of happiness.
We’ve all heard about manifesting. Whether it works or not, but we sure do know that the more we focus on our happiness and the good in our life, the happier we feel. And the more we think about sadness, the more empty we feel.

So, if that can work for happiness, it sure can work for motivation.

Wake up every day and know that you are going to kill it today. Wake up every day – happy and motivated. Take your time to think about the good in your life and all you want to achieve in that day. Trust yourself. If you won’t trust yourself, then how will others trust you?
You make yourself for the world and your future. If you believe in your future, it will surely happen.

Wake up every day and take five minutes, where you close your eyes and think about the good in your life. Think about all the blessings you have and what all you want to achieve on that particular day.

Thinking about the good in your life can send ‘happy’ signals to your brain, which in turn make you feel good throughout the day. We are our thoughts. Manifest your desires, and you’ll meet them halfway to you.

Practice this for a few days and you’ll see the change in your mood.
